* With everything in life -- I advise place your shopping goals in God's hands. Ask him for wisdom and favor.
1) USE THE INTERNET - to RESEARCH information on various cars you like.
Find out rating, miles per gallon, safety rating, consumer reviews, etc. * You can use http://www.consumerreport.org/ and pay to get the information **OR** * You can simply type in the name of the car and do a general search that will give you plenty of reliable stats and information including news reports etc. A site I use (IT'S FREE!): http://www.edmunds.com/
2) PRICE DETERMINATION - Look for *The MSRP Price - The price Dealers start negotiating down from **** AND** * The DEALER'S INVOICE PRICE - The price you will negociate up from. * Try not to go up higher than 1-3 hundred dollars more than Dealer's invoice. * They will call you crazy, may chuckle, tell you "no one will do it" but it has been done!
*Note* The MSRP is usually 4-6,000 more than the Dealer's Invoice Price. BUT that's not your concern. YOU WANT TO GET THE BEST PRICE and with alittle work and determination, you should be able to negociate it close to where you want. --- It has been done!
3) Go out to your local bank and try to get a pre-approval on a car loan. This way you are not depending on the dealer's (Loan Terms) and you are technically providing a CASH DEAL which holds more weight!
3) It is my understanding that mid August is a great time to buy because the next years cars are coming in and Dealers want to start unloading that years inventory to make room. .
If you determine to buy a specific car - ex. TOYOTA Corolla.
Step One.
A) Do not buy on the first shopping trip.
B) Do not let them think you love the car or have to get it.
C) Do not let them know how financing will be yet. Let them wonder and try to convince you to take a loan through them but tell them you will think about it.
D) Go to various (Toyota ) Dealers. They are all independant and will negociate differently.
E) Gather all their cards with their offers on the back and go home.
Step two. - OVER THE PHONE NEGOCIATIONS.
A) Wait a few days - They should have started their follow-up calls by now.
B) Let them know you pulled all the information on the car including Dealers Invoice Price.
B) Now you start negociating over the phone..... The ball is in your court!
C) Let them know this is a cash deal - You don't need their financing and you are going to buy a car Cash but one for price XXX.XX- that should be at the dealers invoice price.
*** Dealers that want to sell will think and try.
*** Dealers that don't will loose out. -- but don't cross some of them off- they may call back.
*** Get the dealers emails and send 1 email to several dealers (put email names on Blind Copy so they don't know who you are sending it to) and let them know whomever give you the best deal at XXX.XX amount, you are willing to leave your home and meet with them to place the purchase.
**** Some dealers will negociate --- many want to make an appointment to negociate. STAND YOUR GROUND and let them know that the next time you go to a dealership is to GIVE A CHECK AND HAVE THE TITLE SIGNED OVER. * You may be told over and over again -- I paid more for that car than you are willing to pay. No one will do that. ---stand your ground and wait ---- Someone should FOLD!
* With PRAYER AND PATIENCE - you should be able to get that car at a couple of hundred dollars over invoice! I know several --FRUGAL BUYERS -- That shared their experience with me. I tried it ----- and it worked.
